Flashback Friday (Part 34) - What Happens in Vegas...

October 9, 2009

Next month will mark the sixth anniversary of The Neighbors. I mention them so often they have their own catergory on this blog. Not being traditional ceremonial people about anything, they decided to get married in Las Vegas (Baby!).

They were our landlords earlier the same year in The Frat House and it was a reunion of sorts in Sin City with friends and family flying in from Virginia, San Diego, Colorado, Wyoming and England.

It was my first trip to Vegas and we arrived a night earlier than the large group. Caroline and Chris picked us up at the airport and took us straight to a casino. With our luggage safely in the hotel and it being only 6 p.m. local time, they treated us to tickets to Midieval Times. The only problem, Tim is deathly allergic to horses which happened to be the main characters in the show.

From there we did some casino hopping on The Strip and because there are no clocks anywhere it was a surprise to realize it was 3 a.m. and we hadn't even checked in to our hotel on the other side of town. Plus we lost The Neighbors who had our luggage.

The large crowd arrived the next day and we celebrated Vegas style which included splitting up for respective bachelor and bachelorette parties. A reminder, we were in VEGAS (Baby!). To protect the "innocent" no pictures will be shared at this time.

Caroline and Chris got married by The Elvis at the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel which is where we were staying.

Everyone was hanging around outside dressed up to head to the chapel when an adult size CHICKEN appeared. We knew instantly, it was our friend Steve T. He took off his head and innocently said, "What? No one else is dressing up like animals?" You may remember that he has a habit for dressing for the occassion as demonstrated during The Beer-decathalon.

During the ceremony, there was a break to spin the wheel of destiny, the two showgirls who flocked Elvis danced and then The Chicken decided to join in on the dancing.

It was quite a wedding ceremony.

Afterwards, we rode in a disco-style tour bus to the wedding reception. Notice how comfortable The Chicken was for the tossing of the bouquet?

Here I am giving the thumbs up in the chicken head.

It was a great time and by the time it was over, I was ready to come home to sleep and sober up. Typical Vegas (Baby!).

Now it's your turn. Find an old picture and share a story about it or why you wanted to share it now. Flashback Friday has no real rules other than to have fun. Please share the link to your actual post and not main blog below for others to find you.

Wow! That sounds like one great wedding bash! I love the chicken costume, that is too funny. I didn't know about "Flashback Friday", so I will have to keep that in mind for another week, as it would be fun to do. P.S. I love your blog design! Thanks for stopping by (although I am sorry you had such bad experiences in my home town!)

Vegas is one heck of a city, isn't it? My husband and I also skipped a traditional wedding in favor of those bright city lights, and have never once regretted our decision - it was just too much fun!

Happy FF!

Too bad you won't be in Vegas again this weekend! That would be awesome! Maybe we'll get to meet up at another blogging conference in the future, although if SITScation doesn't go well for me (meaning I completely embarrass myself and ruin my rep beyond repair) it will be my first and my last attempt to meet Internet friends in real life. So, wish me luck. And, why wasn't I following your blog before? Oh, I know, because I'm a dummy!

Congrats to Chris and Caroline and tell the girls "Grandma" says hi and I love them. What pictures??? I never saw pictures and since I am family and can keep a secret...well except for "share a pillow", I think I deserve to see those pics when I'm there in November...so get them ready!!!
Love you all,
Mamaw
