Another Day in Paradise

July 20, 2010

The wild neighbors next door to my parents in Bumpass, Va. have a huge annual party every summer. Two years ago it was No Shoes, No Shirt, No problem, last year it was a Woodstock theme and this year it was Another Day in Paradise.

They have a pig roast, live music, pass out t-shirts and guests are invited to camp out on their five acres. But this isn't the party house above, that's my parents' house.

The Bob-father (far right) and his wife who has the same name as me even drove eight hours from Kentucky for the party.

We left Troy there for two weeks so he could attend bible camp with his two cousins and take swim lessons. It's so eerily quiet in our house.

Last night, I came home and read my book. Tim turned on what he wanted on tv. We had a quiet dinner where no one said, "Eat your dinner please!" I didn't get splashed in the face trying to bathe a 3 1/2 year old who usually says, "Mommy, watch me kick!" while he's laying down in the bathtub. I didn't get to tuck in my little boy and have him sing "Twinkle, Twinkle" and then switch out the words so it says "...like an octagon in the sky..." and then laugh uncontrollably.

I miss it all.

On a positive note, Tim and I have box seats for a minor league game tonight, I'm going to play bunco with the ladies tomorrow night and on Thursday it's a ladies-only happy hour.

I have no plans next week after work. I may be in trouble.

That sounds like such a fun party. Do you think I could get an invite for next year? : )
We never had any family close enough to take my kids when they were young. I think I would have had a hard time leaving them for long too. On the other hand, there were days when I would have rejoiced if someone (anyone) would have given me a break for a couple hours! : )

Holy crap, you've got yourself scheduled for fun all week? I like it!
