Flashback Friday (part 57) - Not America's Sweetheart
May 21, 2010
For years, I got blonde highlights in my hair. At the time I thought it looked great because of my naturally curly hair. I took an exception when I got married in Jamaica and dyed my own hair one color because I was scared I'd look like Ozzy Osbourne in the '80s when he had blond highlights.
Like most children of the 80's, I watched and loved Tom Cruise in Top Gun. Who didn't love when he sang in the bar at the beginning, played with Goose (Anthony Edwards) against Iceman (Val Kilmer) on the volleyball court or asked for permission to "buzz the tower"? However, this was my first glimce of Meg Ryan, Goose's wife in the film. I thought she was adorable.
Fast forward to 2000 when Tim and I watched a movie called Proof of Life with Meg Ryan and Russell Crowe (which led to an off-screen romance while filming that broke up Meg's real life marriage to Dennis Quaid). I was bored with my hairstyle and for the first and last time ever, took a picture of Meg Ryan from that film to see my hair stylist, Shai, a transgender Italian/Thai "lady" who has been cutting my hair for 12 years now. "She" could have her own blog, that's for sure.
This was the result.
I don't remember my hair every being this short or blonde before and it hasn't since. That may be a good thing.
Now it's your turn.
Find an old picture like Cathy or Laura and share a story about it or why you wanted to share it now. Flashback Friday has no real rules other than to have fun. Please share the link in comments to your actual post and not main blog for others to find you.
If you'd like the button, here's the code to include. There's a square option to your left as well.

I like your hair short. And who cares about Ozzie, I love blond highlights.
I think I would like to see a picture of this stylist of yours
I am a blonde, going grey, with hilites to the point of being blonde all over. I've tried going darker but it just doesn't seem to make me feel good about the girl in the mirror... hence... TONS OF HILITES!

The Blue Ridge Gal
(I like the highlites on your hair!!)
I think you look awesome in that picture! I also have always liked Meg Ryan, but not so much since she had her lips redone. :( Top Gun...Hell ya!
You are cute how you are...but that is a good look when you are in the mood for change!
Found your blog through a comment link and have sat here for almost an hour, getting *nothing* accomplished but loving what I've read. Consider me a new and faithful reader.
My hair is naturally dirty blond and I've always wanted to dye it darker...so tempted, every time I go to the salon!
I love Meg Ryan, and your stylist did a good job of capturing one of her hairstyles, but I like you with darker hair better. Not that the blond isn't cute, though!
