Flashback Friday (Part 40) - What Are You Going To Do Next?
December 4, 2009
This is a picture of me at age eight in second grade after getting First Communion in May 1984. I was standing outside of our house in Maryland with Buck and Sunny, my parents' neighbors at Lake Anna, who have participated in every life event I've had like my wedding in Jamaica as well as my brother and sister's.
When I was just slightly younger than this and after many a few beers with my parents, Buck promised to build me a swing on the big walnut tree by his house.
The next day, before I walked over to their house in the country my Mom said, don't bother Buck about that swing, he's busy.
So, I followed him around all day asking him, "What are you going to do next Buck?" The response was always something like, till the garden, feed the dogs, change the oil in the tractor, etc. Clearly, he had forgotten his promise to me the night before.
Thank God for Sunny, she saw Buck's curly-haired, freckled face shadow all afternoon and overheard me ask him for the 100th fifth time, "What are you going to do next Buck?" and a light bulb went off.
Buck then stopped what he was doing and built me a swing on the massive 100+ year old walnut tree outside of their house.
It was a perfect day.
Ironically, a few years ago the tree had hollowed out and Buck set the inside on fire to get rid of the bug nests in there. Even though he soaked it for hours in water, it continued to burn and was cut down. To preserve the walnut, we towed huge logs of it back to Virginia Beach, had it sawed into boards and dryed. Tim is slowly using the wood to create things around the house including a wooden bench in the back yard.
Now it's your turn.
Find an old picture and share a story about it or why you wanted to share it now. Flashback Friday has no real rules other than to have fun. Please share the link in comments to your actual post and not main blog for others to find you.

Oh how I miss those little white socks with the lace trim! I bet there were mary janes involved, too.
What an adorable picture! I miss my tree swing . . .
How cute! I wish I had a picture of my swing. My dad fell out of the tree when he was putting it up and broke his heel. We had a vacation planned for that weekend and had to cancel it. Also, my dad's heel has hurt ever since that day. (30 some years ago.)
Sorry so long. I probably shoud have blogged that.
What a cute picture!! Thanks for sharing such a great story!
