Flashback Friday (part 21) - USS Wisconsin
May 29, 2009
We live in Virginia Beach and I work in downtown Norfolk, Va. It's almost impossible to drive anywhere in this area without seeing some sort of body of water; ocean, lake, river, bay, etc.
Every day on my way home I drive by a retired Navy ship called the USS Wisconsin.
In May 2001, my parents, Tim and I went down to tour the ship. This was only second time on an actual Navy ship and the size is still awe-inspiring.
Check out the Wisconsin's tickets to the gun show below. (Sorry, Deb humor...) My parents aren't photoshopped in but those guns are huge.
Even though the ship had been de-commissioned in 2000, it was still left intact inside in the event it would be needed in battle. (Hello, anyone remember Sept. 11, 2001?) We were not allowed to tour the interior for this reason but could look in the windows. Besides this fact, the only other thing I remember is that the deck is made of teak which is extremely durable to salt water. Tim and I were extra colorful that day.
Now that you've learned two new things today, relax and enjoy the last weekend of May.

Thanks for the lesson! Your photo cropping is looking nice too.
I am so jealous. I'm stuck in the middle of Texas and you have to go seriously out of your way to get to water here.
OH... I am not afraid to leave random comments anyway!!! LOL!!
My dad would probably make me drag him to that darn ship every time that he visited!! He loves to tour a military boat. The ol man took us on about every boat, plane, tank that the military has retire. Yes - big plane, boat, tank!!! Enough!!
Great family pics!!
