Flashback Friday (part 18) - Our Jamaican Wedding
May 8, 2009
Tim and I have been together for over 10 years but on this day we celebrate our sixth wedding anniversary. We got married in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. We decided to have a destination wedding or as Sandals calls it a "weddingmoon." You make reservations, pay an extra fee to get married, pick the day, time and location on the resort. When you arrive you select your flower bouquet, make a hair appointment, pick what you want for your breakfast in bed the following day and your first dance song. If you want to add on extras like photography, there is a small fee.
I highly recommend this type of wedding to anyone. The night before we got married after our faux rehearsal dinner with my parents and another couple who are like grandparents to me, Tim and I grabbed a bottle of wine from the bar, two glasses and laid in one of many hammocks around the resort. When that bottle was finished, we went back for a second one.
The morning of our wedding, we met our group in the hot tub, ate a continental breakfast looking out at the water, played some volleyball in the pool and then took a break to get ready to get married.
Big fancy weddings are great but they're so expensive and so much work. I have yet to meet a bride who wasn't stressed the whole time leading up to their wedding ceremony.I loved my dress with it's light blue and violet flowers sewn all over it.
After the wedding, we had time to relax in the bar, changed our clothes and ate dinner. Afterwards we hung out with a couple we met from Nebraska who were on their honeymoon and played cards and drank beer.
On the walk back to the room, Tim was coerced to jump into the volleyball pool in his dress pants. I made an excuse to go back to the room, laid down on the edge of the bed and proceeded to wake up to Tim banging on the door. I locked him out of the room on our wedding night. Classic Deb, really.
A few weeks after we got back from Jamaica. We had a big reception at the lake house and I got to put my dress back on for a 15 minute photo op. Personally, when I go to weddings, my favorite part is the reception. The ceremonies are great but I'm ready to turn it up and get out on the dance floor.
Here are other Flashback Friday posts.

Enjoy your anniversary! Next year we will mark 16 years together, which means we'll have been together for exactly half of Stacey's life!! Can't believe it.
Hey I was there for that!!!! Happy Anniversary!!
I love seeing wedding pictures. Your's are beautiful. I wanted to have a weddingmoon so bad, but my Dad refused. I would like to renew our vow and have are weddingmoon for maybe our 10 anniversary.
Awww - gorgeous dress!
And I agree w/ reception being the best. We had a 15 min ceremony, and then partied on. I LOVED our wedding too - isn't great to look back??
