The Christmas Letter 2011 (A Satire)

It’s cliché but this year just flew by. I feel like it was just 12 months ago that I was writing our last family newsletter in my head.

We are winding down on an exciting year with lots of visits from our free-loading friends and family around our new pool that was finally finished in May. Troy became a fish after numerous swim lessons earlier in the year and laps back and forth in the new pool for candy.

Troy visited my parents in Florida earlier in the year and saw gators lounging in the neighborhood. I didn't spot any FSU fans but I'm sure they were there too. He enjoyed a visit to Sea World but not the water rides.

Despite almost being mauled by a wild fox, we survived our annual week long family vacation to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Nothing screams having your own bathroom more than 21 people in a house for a week. Let’s all bow our heads and thank the Lord that prohibition was lifted so many years ago.

Troy graduated from daycare to attend Pre-K at the Catholic school next door. He is one of the older children in his class and thankfully one of the biggest. This helps when the boys try to wrestle him and he takes them out. On a related note, the last two months have led to a lot of red warnings for behavior in class. In addition to the typical punishments, we have had him writing sentences. On his recent report card, he received top scores for penmanship. When God closes a door, he may open a window but only to pass you some paper and writing tools.

Tim aka IT Badass had a good year and was promoted to Vice President at his company. His Grandpa, a WWII vet said, “that’s what those companies do these days, give you a new title but don’t pay you more.” Thanks Grandpa, for not expecting a nicer Christmas present this year.

As for me, I’m looking forward to the new year and multiple vacations to Florida, the Outer Banks and Costa Rica. I need the material to update my blog and to write this letter next December.

Merry Christmas!
Deb, Tim and Troy
