I'm Proud To Be A Step-Monster
March 22, 2011
My 18-year old stepson and his girlfriend flew into town this past weekend for a quick visit. We hung out on the deck with friends and family, grilled wings, played pool and went to the beach.
Before he left, Cary* gave me my belated birthday poem.

He jokingly named it "Step-Monster" which has been an inside joke for many, many years between Cary, his sister Carson and myself.
Step-Monster
She is my hero's hero; sweet, loving, and fun,
Blessed by God, he sent her a baby boy, my brother.
Compatible with my father down to the core, she is the one,
Energetic passion with my sister and I; we wouldn't want another.
She has blessed our family with gifts that cannot be given,
Shared the memories with our family that cannot be explored,
Gave us the qualities of her own to make this life worth living,
And helped me live a life that I would never want to be restored.
You are always my "Virginia Mom" but a mentor at all times.
So I thank you for all you've done for me, it is something that always will shine.
He wrote a poem last year for his Dad for Father's Day called My Hero.

Awww....so sweet!
Seriously? That is so sweet! Lots of love in your family!
It so great that you have such a wonderful relationship with your step-children.
I brought three children into my beautiful brides life and their relationship is more than I could ever asked for.
As Dad, I know how luck your husband is to have it all come together.
It is a testament to the character of the children, the father, and you.
You struck gold with this boy. :-)

So sweet.
What they said. And your hubby does *not* look old enough to have an 18 year old!
Cute and talented. ;)
how SWEET of him!:-)
this is great too! You are lucky to have such a good relationship with him. I wish I had half of that love with my own step-monster!
