Tailgating Tips
October 5, 2010
We spent another Saturday afternoon tailgating before the Old Dominion University football game in Norfolk.

Having attended collegiate games on a regular basis for the last 16 years, here are my observations:
1. Everyone dresses in the home team's colors.
2. The tailgate menu is an art form for some and taken very seriously.
3. Gas powered blenders are always a reason to pause and admire.
4. A game of cornhole or tossing a football are popular ways to pass time before the game.
5. Drinking before the game is a favorite pastime of mine.
6. The proximity of your parking spot to the stadium indicates the amount of money you've donated to the school.
7. College students don't hold their liquor well.
8. The line for the port-a-potties always seems to take longer when you really need to go.
9. Knowledge of football isn't needed to have a good time. (See # 5.)
10. Win or lose, everyone can have fun before the game. (See #5.)

As I mentioned on twitter, I would love to be a professional tailgater.

The parking places are essentially for sale, huh? Well, well, well. Love that giant sandwich your son has!
I was at a UVa tailgate last fall and was happy to see that formal dress code has apparently gone away!
Great observations. Also, Troy looks like he's stuffed. Like there's no way he's finishing that burger!
Nice pics of the kid Deb and lovely blog :)
Great list and I haven't tailgated recently but I have enough to know what you say is true.. I want to go to one with you sometime.
