An Unconventional Marriage (Guest Post)
June 15, 2010
Deb aka WebSavvyMom is on vacation and asked me a "non-blogger" to write an entry for her. Since she's at the beach, I got married on the beach and it's my anniversary, here is how it all went down. Friends in real life, I've been regularly featured on this blog when we met Duran Duran, celebrated my 40th birthday at the beach and just are hanging out at happy hour or here. The first word that comes to mind when I think of how to describe my relationship to my husband is unconventional. We met 10 years ago in Virginia Beach when I was 31 and he was 29 and after our first date I knew we would get married. Six months later, we were living together
After our first Christmas together, we received an unexpected gift.
I was pregnant.
How did this happen?
Well, I know how *it* happened but I don't "get pregnant."
Ten months later our daughter Emily was born and she was the best gift I've ever received.
Shortly before Emily turned two, my friend Charity and I agreed we needed to get away for a real vacation. After much internet searching, we decided on St. John a little known territory of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Then I proposed to my husband.
Two birds and one stone. Why not get married while we're there?
Charity and her long term boyfriend Dave (pictured on left) got married on the same day on Trunk Bay in St. John.
We didn't just officially get married on that trip in 2003 but we created a true love affair with The Island.
We have been back twice with Emily and every time I get on the ferry to leave, I shed a tear. I know it's not conventional to be so in love with a vacation destination but then again, my life is truly unconventional and I wouldn't change a thing about that either.

not so sure your relationship is so unconventional anymore.
weird how things that were unconventional when we were younger or close to the norm now,
you have a beautiful family
Well, it's no fun to things the conventional way, right?
I love this story! You do what works for you and that's a beautiful thing!
Sounds like you have a wonderful marriage and relationship...and you like the islands, nothing wrong with that.
