An Unwelcome Guest

November 17, 2009

Last week after four straight days of rain due to the Nor'easter that rolled into town and met up with the artist formally known as Hurricane Ida, there was an unwelcome guest in the area.

This barge.
Barge left in Sandbridge/Virginia Beach during Nor'easter
This barge is 570 feet (almost two football fields) and those containers on the top are what you typically see being pulled by 18 wheelers on the highway. This is a huge ship.

It was being towed and got loose during the storm and ended up on Sandbridge Beach which is located in the southeastern part of Virginia Beach. I live in the same town but about as far as you can get from this area.

The waves remind me of Hurriance Bill (not so much) that went by in late August.

Photo stolen courtesy of my friend who lives in that neck of the woods.

That is a really good picture.

A (much smaller) barge got stuck on the banks of the Ohio River in Huntington, WV and they just left it there. It is quite an eyesore.

If I saw that on the beach, I'd think we were at war or something! I've never seen anything like that around here, but we're just on a lake.

I have to say I'm not sure I've ever seen anything of that size wash up on shore. We've seen whales wash up but this is a whole lot bigger than a whale LOL

Wow. What an amazing picture. HUGE! I was so glad the Nor Easter didn't affect me too much since I was out of town in Texas : )
