Flashback Friday (part 30) - The Funnel Game
August 28, 2009
New people who hang around our family always go through somewhat of an initiation. It's especially fun when the newbies are on the gullible side.
In August 2001 at my parents' lake house in Bumpass, Va., our tubing friends Katie and Eric came to visit us from Charlottesville.
My Dad likes to challenge folks to The Funnel Game.
The premise is to place a medium sized funnel in the waistband of your pants, tilt your head back while balancing a quarter and try to drop it forward into the funnel without using your hands. To start, you have a few people try it to show how easy it is to do.
Then you have the new person do it a few times successfully so they gain a sense of confidence. If necessary, you can up the ante a little and have the victim person stand on one leg and do it.
After a few attempts, you have the person balance the quarter for five seconds and count it down before dropping the quarter.

LOL - very funny! If people start wearing dresses to your parents' lake house, including the men, you'll know the word is out and the jig is up :-)
I don't have pictures to share, but every boyfriend who came to date me or my sisters had to do the "Gripper Test" -- it's a little device that measures how strong your hand grip is. My Dad would start off and get a super high number. Then my MOM would go and do equally well. Then they handed it to the visiting guy, and you could see the look of horror cross his face... What if he couldn't beat my MOM?
Always good for a chuckle.
Man, that is freakin' hilarious. Your dad laughing is cracking me up. I will so have to do this to my mom's husband who is the biggest know-it-all in the world. Ha ha ha. Thanks for sharing.
