A Favorite Thing - Homegrown Lemons

January 14, 2010

We live in a beach town but it is by no means tropical year round here. Shortly after moving into my condo, Tim bought a small lemon plant with dreams of fresh lemons by the bushel.

Almost nine years and several large pots later, the lemon plant has turned into more of a lemon tree.

It spends its summer outside of this glass door in the southern facing side of the house and the winters indoors.

Right now it going through an explosive budding process and Bath and Body Works has nothing on the fragant smell going on in our house of lemons.

It's amazing what some sunshine, good fertilizers and water can produce.

It may be time to pour shots make some homemade limonchello lemonade.

This bud's for you in my very creepy and out of focus hand.

my neighbor has a lemon tree and it thrives beautifully, provided she takes it inside during cold snaps.

Yours is gorgeous too.

That's it, I'm getting a lemon tree.

WOW! They look like the lemons that are plastic and kept in the refrigerated section of the supermarket. Wait, is this a Lemon Hoax?

You have no idea how jealous I am of your lemon tree. Think I could grow one up here in MN? Hmm...probably not. I love lemons for eating/smelling/cleaning/adding to drinks....everything.

And such pretty pics too!

That is so beautiful and I can just imagine how heavenly the scent is! You're lucky!

That looks awesome. Now that I live in Southern California I would totally be tempted to try to grow one. You know, were it not for my propensity to kill every plant that I touch. Or look at. Or hear about. Actually, I'm a little afraid for your lemon tree now that I've seen it.

I think it is beautiful. I want one whether it grows lemons or not...

Can they be started from seed like grapefruit trees?
