All you really need this time of year

August 3, 2015

We recently got a GoPro Hero 4 camera so I've been having some fun putting together short videos. This is from a recent weekend at my parents' lake house in Bumpass, Va.

And, there really was a snake in the water.

We went to St. John last month and that video is coming soon.

Home Run!

May 28, 2015

Troy got his first home run of the season earlier this month and I caught it all on camera (except him touching second base - I was cheering him on.)

Love you can see the ball in the top corner.

Play Ball!

May 13, 2015

After a two year hiatus focused on soccer (four seasons) and basketball (two seasons) Troy is back to playing baseball.

Compared to watching kindergarteners play which was like watching paint dry, mostly second graders are much more coordinated.

Things are starting to click with where the play is to get an out, how to get a double play and to watch your base coaches for direction when rounding the bases.

Let's Play Catch Up

October 14, 2014

Let's see, not a lot has happened in the last few months but a lot of fun stuff has as well.

We spent a week in the Outer Banks with our best friends in July. The same family from our joint trip to Costa Rica two years earlier.

Troy started second grade.

He is playing soccer again.

Troy got his hair cut and styled.

We take a picture to practice on picture day. These are the practice shots over the years.

We took a trip to Blacksburg to see Virginia Tech play football.

Troy lost two more teeth in the same week as being the student of the month.

Then a week ago cracked his adult front tooth in half in P.E. class. He was walking at the time he fell.

We are already making plans for Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Plus, our first vacation to St. John in 2015 is booked. Time is going by so fast.

Wordless Wednesday - - The Soccer Ninja

May 14, 2014

Another soccer season is in the books and Troy's skills have gotten tremendously better than when Tim and Chris coached when he was four years old. There are still some kids on the field who clearly don't know what is happening or quite frankly, don't care.

My DSLR camera was out of service for the last two months but I finally got in repaired. $200 later and reunited with my favorite camera, I captured the last two soccer games of the season.

So much for this post being wordless.

Giving the Tooth Fairy a BOGO

May 5, 2014

Last night, we decided to remove both of Troy's front teeth to save the Tooth Fairy a trip. It took $5 bribe per tooth. Keeping with tradition of how he lost his first tooth, we shot it out with a Nerf gun.

The second one was more stubborn so we tied some dental floss around it and I yanked it out. I can now say that I will never be a dentist. It was such a gross experience.

His face will forever look different once the new teeth come in.

Picture Day - First Grade Edition

April 1, 2014

Just like we have done since he knew what "Say Cheese" meant, we practice smiles on the morning of picture day.

84 Months Old

November 19, 2013

And just like that, Troy is seven years old.
I remember writing this post when he turned two, when he turned threewhen he turned five and turned six. And this one about the day he was born.
Troy is 7 years old - November 2013
We very often live week to week in terms of what needs to be done and what can be pushed off. What do I have to do in the next seven days and next thing you know you're stumbling across Christmas decorations in the store and it's only November. We just concluded another soccer season and are soon to start on basketball for the first time. Next week is Thanksgiving and we'll share it with extended family at our house. Then it's just over three weeks until Christmas. Meanwhile, this little guy gets bigger and bigger and makes me laugh every day. I'm really lucky to be his mom because I get to think about my week to week plans with him.

My Summer Vacation (so far)

August 7, 2013

Since Memorial Day, my summer vacation has been wonderful. It's been full of traveling, concerts, visits from family and time with friends. We've enjoyed a lot of "stay-cation" time in the backyard pool with the grill going and trying to keep Tucker out of the pool. A highlight was a week at an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica for a week in June. It had been 10 years since we were on the island where we got married and we have plans to return next June with the entire family.

We have just over three weeks of summer before school starts after Labor Day. Carson graduated from high school and is heading off to college in a few weeks.

Tim commented in the last week that I have been slack on posting to the blog. With the ease of Instagram, Twitter and Facebook (plus time on Pinterest), a blog seems *so* labor intensive in comparison. With the removal of Google Reader and soon my beloved iGoogle, do people even read blogs anymore? I personally read only a few of the ones I list as favorites on the sidebar on this site. If I have time.

The new job isn't quite so new anymore. It's been a year and a half and I'm still pleased with my decision to leave the healthcare field in its various formats that I had been in for almost 15 years and learn the world of commercial real estate. I like the new company so much that since I've arrived we have been recognized by a state publication for being one of the best places to work and most recently the number one place to work in the local area. It was easy for me to write the nominations and I wasn't worried about my coworkers answers on the required surveys for their thoughts.

More of the Kentucky family
Visiting Kentucky family - Memorial Day weekend - May 2013

Troy will be entering public school as a first grader. He won't have to wear a uniform. He gets to ride the bus for the first time. He's definitely growing up as demonstrated by his additional three inches since the new year. I bought him some new school shirts this past weekend but held off on pants until the weather gets cooler. He says something funny almost every day and I regret not documenting it all on this blog.

In the 10 years we've lived in our house, this year has been the best garden yield we've ever had. We have had dozens and dozens of cucumbers, tomatoes, jalapenos and green peppers. In the last week we have canned 10 quarts of spaghetti sauce and several pints of jalapeno relish.

A cucumber went unnoticed a little too long...

Tim's birthday was earlier this week and we had the customary sloppy joes and French fries to celebrate. The tradition continues.

This weekend we're off to my parents' lake house for our neighbors and dear friends 50th wedding anniversary. Then the following weekend we're heading back to the Outer Banks like we did several years ago with our Costa Rica friends, Kim, Pat and Emily.

We're determined to squeeze everything we can out of this summer. You're only "young" once.

In no particular order, here are some of the pictures of my summer vacation so far.
